Premium Composition Roofing
Designer Roofing specializes in installing metal roofing across North Texas, but our reliable crews also install plenty of standard composition roofs!
A standard asphalt shingle roof is still the right choice for many homeowners. Composition shingles have been the standard roofing choice for decades, and are still the most popular roofing material in the United States, despite the rise of residential metal roofing in recent years.
How Composition Roofing Works
What is a composition roof? Composition roof shingles and asphalt roof shingles are the same thing: they are both a composition product made of layers of fiberglass matting, asphalt, and mineral granules. These materials act together to create a durable, flexible, and waterproof shingle. The fiberglass mat provides strength and reinforcement, while the asphalt and granules provide durability.

Composition Shingle Roof Colors
It’s important to know that there is a huge variation in performance among the different kinds and manufacturers of composition shingles. Designer Roofing only uses composition shingles from GAF, Tamko, Owens Corning and CertainTeed. Depending on the quality of shingle you choose, they can be warrantied to last from 20 to 50 years.
Composition roofing is the most cost-effective option, but will require more repair and maintenance and will need to be replaced sooner.
While the higher-end composition shingles are of higher quality and last longer, all composition shingles do deteriorate over time. Heat damage breaks down compounds in the asphalt, leaving them vulnerable to cracking, peeling, and shrinking. In general, a good composition roof should last 10 to 20 years before it needs to be replaced.
